Really nice laptop, if I needed a laptop I would definitely consider this, but since I work from home my Windows PC will do, for now.

Nice lappy. I've been thinking lately I might sell my uMBP and get a Windows notebook but haven't found anything that comes close to a MBP - maybe now I have. Anybody want to buy a 2008 uMBP/2.53GHz C2D/8GB/500GB. Hehe.

Viewed this a few days ago on cnet and then I didn't really like the Dell. After seeing again maybe it's not so bad.

If it cost like a Macbook Pro, why not buy a Macbook Pro ?
Because not everyone is looking for a MacBook Pro?

$999 starting, $1499 max price.
Compare that with the 15" counterpart at apple.

Only major difference between these two is you don't get a quad core laptop for the Dell. Graphics cards on the lowest version of MBP is nearly the same as the dell's.

MBP 15": $1799 base, $2199 high model.

But it doesn't cost nearly as much, so....

You do realise that Mac's run a different operating system - that maybe the end user might prefer Mac OS X over Windows.

So they decided to rip off Apple's Macbook Pros and still managed to make them thicker? Well done Dell, you get zero points for original design and extra minus points for that slightly recessed trackpad that is undoubtedly a million years behind Apple's trackpad. Also that ethernet port in the back will surely make cable management even more enjoyable.

Was Apple the 1st to invent Backlit keyboards? Speakers on the sides? Slot loading dvd drive? Ports on the left? Island style keyboard?

Hell, dell didn't even "copy" their unibody frame. Apple uses Aluminium only, Dell Xps 15z uses Magnesum and Aluminium.

Then Dell is really copying the old PowerBooks.

Looks pretty standard.. at least when the Macbook Air was released it had some wow factor.

Yeah.. as in "Wow, why would anyone buy that?"

"Dell's XPS-15, the world's thinnest laptop. If you exclude other laptops"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/tech...dell-thinnest-laptop-or-not

"Based on Dell internal analysis as at February 2011. Based on a thickness comparison (front and rear measurements) of other 15" laptop PCs manufactured by HP, Acer, Toshiba, Asus, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony, MSI. No comparison made with Apple or other manufacturers not listed."

What, can you find a thinner laptop in Fujitsu, or ibuypower?
Don't compare it with mac, it said PC(WINDOWS).

Matt Hardwick said,
the macbook pro is thinner, they are abusing semantics when they say thinnest 15" pc.
Apple was the company that first came up with the difference between Mac's and PC's, all Dell is doing is capitalizing on Apple's distinction by not having to include Apple in their marketing (:

Exactly. PCs run Windows or Linux, Macs run OSX. doesn't matter it's all the same hardware inside (more or less). I have a SunSPARC system at home, and never refer to it as a PC. mainly due to it not having an x86 processor

as said below, dell is seriously abusing semantics here, and i will happily call this false advertising

Can't you see what it specifically said?
Thinnest 15" PC in the world.

Neowin -> Thinnest 15" Windows Laptop in the world.

So no, they are not false advertising

Yet you can easily install Windows on a MBP

I don't see the point in spending nearly twice the amount for a similarly spec'd laptop.

Meh. Looks "ok" but doesn't have any real sex appeal. Yeah it's thin, that's cool. But I want more.

What is this "more" that you want?

He wants "sexy sexy" in the form of spreading the cheeks and buying a MacBook Air.

doesnt look thin to me.

It's not Macbook Air-thin, but they are saying they're the thinnest 15" laptop, not the thinnest laptop in general.

Thinnest 15" Windows Laptop. LOL

By the way, Stephen, single-quote means Foot and double-quote means Inch. Nobody wants a 15 Feet diagonally wide laptop.

It looks like it's about 2 CD jewel cases thick (when closed), that's pretty thin in my book!

Edit: Oops Jebadiah, thanks I fixed the title.

doesnt look thin to me but still nice specs.

I think if i will be able to see it in real life, then i will tell my opinion about how thin it is and how thin it looks

I would! It would make a good TV...

LOL You could jump on the buttons to type stuff, assuming you don't want to keep it on your lap. Huge toy!
