Fences .98 [Beta]

Fences is a one-of-a-kind program, allowing you to draw labeled shaded areas on your desktop, which become movable & resizable containers for your desktop icons. These groups can help bring organization and consistency to your computer's desktop

This update brings a number of fixes and compatibility updates. Most notably we have drastically increased the support and performance of Fences on Windows 7. Regardless of which version of Windows you are using, Fences is the ultimate way to keep your desktop organized.

Fences can be downloaded for free via Impulse, or at the Fences website.

Tried an earlier beta already and wasn't usable at that time. Problems with multi-monitors situations, the show-desktop icon made everything dissappear and I was never able to uninstall it from my system completely. There was an uninstall item but that was functioning as an installer...
Micht try it again when it's released.

if i wasn't obsessed with having 0 desktop icons id use it

Doesn't matter how many desktop icons you have.

In fact, Fences' slickest (to me) trick is making your desktop icons go away.

That alone makes Fences worth the download.

this thing should be built into the windows desktop by default. Unfortunately the previous version knackered up my multimonitor wallpapers so i had to remove it from my system. Maybe this version fixes that?... anyhow, its actually a good app and contains none of the usual starbugs you'd find in say, windowblinds for example.

Nope, I don't even notice it's there. A very very simple and extremely useful app I'm not a huge fan of Stardock but Fences I like (and not just because it's free :P)

Negligible resources. It doesn't even run an executable in the systray. :)

It doesn't show up in Task Manager either, has anyone figured out where it's running or how?

Must be a glutton for resources if even Stardock won't charge for it.

Fences uses fewer resources than IM software (from personal experience using Fences in both Vista 64-bit and 7 64-bit).

It shows up in Processes (not Running Applications).
