foobar2000 1.1.10 Final

foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats.

What's new in this version:

  • Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) decoding support is now included out-of-the-box, using the newly published Apple library.
  • Fixed WAV handling bugs introduced in 1.1.9.
  • Worked around buggy Asus Xonar drivers, volume control no longer requires toggling specific options in the driver control panel.
  • Various stability fixes.
  • New “about” dialog.

I want to like this application so very much. But I just can't. It has all the tools and options, but there's something about it's operation that just gets me really frustrated. Every time I have gone in to set it up I've ended up scrapping 20 minutes later in frustration.

It's worth the frustration if you can get it the way you want! That is why I like foobar2000 so much. You can basically do anything you want with it and customize it precisely to your own liking.

Many people like to make the player look elegant with fancy skins and layouts for the Columns UI (have to enable it in preferences), but I swear by the Default UI.

The default UI is easily customizable without skins or bugs. I achieved this layout, which sits to the right of my browser window on my 1920 width monitor. The tabs on the bottom takes me to the playlist chooser, file tag information, frequency graph, and a real time spectrum as seen in the screenie.

I set ctrl+f to open a screen that searches the entirety of my library. The folder monitorring is very low impact and seamlessly updates the moment I place something in my music folder. Hotkeys are very customizable.

Foobar also automatically scrobbles everything I play to my Last.fm page. It has extensive tag and folder layout tools, burns my CDs, plays any file format I throw at it, and plays back gaplessly.

Same here. After wasting a load of time on skins and certain versions of this and that I just stuck with the default UI. Much better.

indeed. music is to be listened to, not to be looked at

it's great. i use it to convert from FLAC to other formats (MP3/MPC/m4a(AAC)/OGG(Vorbis) etc) as it takes some initial setup (as you have to download the codecs (i.e. LAME v3.99.3 etc)) but once your done it's great.

my program of choice for listening to music on the PC since you can create tabs and load up a bunch of stuff.

great app, but today you need more an media player than just an audioplayer

really? how is that?

foobar2000 does everything i need, never crashed (since may 2009 when i discovered it), its so lightweight it makes you think its part of windows itself

you can add radiostations and anything to it

its the best audio player

this is how it looks for me - just like itunes, except its better, million years ahead

Why? Its my all-in-one audio player. I use different software for non-audio-only files, such as PowerDVD 10 or WMP12, (though for DVDs or Blu-rays I tend to use my PS3 now, which is connected to my monitor), or they are steamed directly from the Internet.

i agree, it is maybe the best audio player by far. But it's only AUDIO player, but i think today you need more than a AUDIO player, a MEDIA player (Video and Audio)

That's just a personal opinion. I use two different apps for audio and video/media, because I believe they are each best for their purpose. But I understand some wants an all-purpose media player too.

Maybe you do, but many don't. I use MPC-HC for all my videos, and foobar for my audio. I dislike any player that combines video and audio.

Agreed. i prefer 'Pot Player' for video (i.e. .mkv (h264) / .avi (XviD)) and Foobar2000 for Audio.

You dislike them with what reason? Another Tech dumbuser. Neowin aint worth nothing these days anymore.

i disagree. i think he's right, video and audio players separate are better because with Foobar, which as you know specializes in audio, it just is better setup/suited for audio then your typical player that's primarily for video is.

that's the reason a lot of us, myself included, prefer having separate programs for video/audio.
