K-Lite Codec Pack Standard 9.5.0

The K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of DirectShow filters, VFW/ACM codecs, and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your audio and movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even several less common formats.

K-Lite Codec Pack standard variant contains everything you need to play all the common video file formats. It contains Media Player Classic, which is an excellent player for video files. It also has (better) support for playback of DVDs. This pack is recommended for the average user.

What's new in this version:

  • Updated Media Player Classic Home Cinema to version 1.6.5.6215
  • Updated ffdshow to version 1.2.4493
  • Updated LAV Filters to version 0.53.2
  • Updated DirectVobSub to xy-VSFilter version 3.0.0.206
  • Updated Codec Tweak Tool to version 5.4.8
  • Updated Win7DSFilterTweaker to version 5.6

There are a lot of good codec packs out there, but a lot contain illegal codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack (Standard) contains nothing but legal and clean codecs. Here you can find a list of all components that are included in the pack.

I used to use K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, for years, then a few years ago I discovered Shark007 Codecs, and they are updated very frequently.

K-Lite codec pack is a fine codec pack. It used to be pretty sketchy but they have cleaned it up these last couple years. I prefer it to CCCP; just personal preferences. All modern PCs can handedly to take advantage of what K-Lite can offer.

So what's wrong with VLC?

There{s nothing wrong. VLC has been greatly improved.

Now, why MPC is better? Because of codecs.
Open VLC and MPC with the same video file. Compare quality and sound and you'll see that MPC will come hands down on both.

Do not use codec packs.

Install the following,
Jan Willem 32's MPC Builds. Set to EVR:CP
LAV Filters and set it to DXVA2 native.
Icaros for MKV thumbnails.

Sit back, enjoy.

The K-lite codec packs contains ffdshow, LAV (with the setting for hardware acceleration), MPC-HD, Icaros thumbnail provider in a single package plus much more not to mention it fixes broken or missing containers/codecs. The default settings have been decided by their community that knows very well which codec is better at playing each format (with time everything is moving to LAV but there are still a few instances where ffdshow is still better).
