Lenovo Windows 8 tablet leaks, specs splayed for all to see

The launch of Windows 8 is right around the corner and as that day gets closer, we fully expect to learn more about how OEMs are going to embrace Windows 8. Lenovo, to no surprise, is jumping on the Windows 8 train and what we have today are some internal slides that show off at least one of the company's upcoming tablets.

The tablet, called the Windows Thinkpad Tablet 2 (tablet 2 is likely a placeholder name) will sport a 10.1in IPS LED display, feature a dual core Atom CPU, 1366x768 resolution, 2MP 720P front facing camera, 8MP rear facing camera, dual microphones, Mini HDMI, Micro SD slot, and a few other features that you can see in the slides above (and below).

Lenovo is not shy about calling out the iPad and how its product will be superior to that device. But, the retail price of the device and the marketing around the product have a major impact on the consumer perception of the device and ultimately how well the device sells.

The tablet, on paper, looks quite good but until we get one of these devices in our hand, it's hard to give it a true judgment as build quality and materials can make or break a device. Beyond that, Lenovo is about to make a serious play into the tablet market that will give the consumers one more option when it comes to finding a device that fits their needs.

I don't know how they plan to against the iPad with this resolution. I really hope that we'll see better resolution screens at launch.
iPad's screen is it's best selling point.

My grandmother using does not notice nor care about the resolution.

design with minimaLism pLease... just pLace the "THINKPAD" at the back.
and or even the "LENOVO"... ^^

i hope someone can send this to them, or suggest for them to make a poLL on their site...
most of the consumers want a cLean front.

Get rid of the icon and logo from the front of that tablet. The only icon should be the windows icon. God when will they learn.

Clearly these are fakes -

You can see the spelling mistakes a mile off... to make matters worse, you can see the squiggly red line under each one!

I'd agree. No marketing document would ever be created where the 'compare our device with brand x device' section shows any segment where the competition device is better.

That was because I tried to take a screenshot quickly, ignoring presentation mode. Thus - squiggly red like

I do not see how Windows 8 equals iOS !!!!!

hahaha yeah I noticed that as well Windows has been in development for a lot longer than iOS... let alone the power that can be unleashed in a fully blown OS not some half baked, watered down excuse for an OS

agreed. ipad is pretty much an enlarged version of the ipod touch...basically.

For the purpose of the comparison they are indeed equal. This comparison isn't meant to review which OS is better than the other.

You reveal your own ignorance by making such statements.

Hmmm. What he said is true.. How is it not an enlarged iPod?

It's not an enlarged iPod or iPhone. Maybe the first one was. Take a look at the apps from both Apple and third party developers. They actually make use of all that extra screen real estate. They don't simply enlarge their apps to fit the bigger screen.

Like you said in your own words, ipod with a larger screen.

And that is different from a bigger ipod touch how? You'd expect better resolution on a bigger screen.
That's like trying to say if I have a 15" monitor for my computer with a res of 1024x768, then go and get a 19" monitor that can handle 1920x1080 then I suddenly have a new computer as well just because of all the new screen real estate.

No, I did not. Making use of extra screen real estate is not just about enlarging the UI. It is the presentation, navigation and interaction of the app on iPad's that differentiates it.

I am not talking about hardware specifications here. The resolution of the new iPad gives the maximum benefit when viewing photos and reading large amounts of text. But apps being designed for a larger screen have nothing to do with that. As I said in my original post, it is very easy for developers to just enlarge their app to fit the larger screen. But they do not. They actually sit and think how navigation and interaction can be changed when their app is used on an iPad.

they're not equal in any context, Windows 8 is a full OS and iOS is mobile OS (which is technically inferior to even WP8, not to mention RT). you don't need a review to conclude which OS is better.

?? Its only got 2 GBs of RAM, there's no need for 64.

There are other reasons to use 64-bit OS than just the total amount of RAM.
They should have gone 64-bit.
The only reason to limit to 32bit OS would be if the Cloverview Atom is only a 32-bit chip.

It's about processor, not RAM. imo, today's systems should use the OS architecture matched to processor. running 32-bit OS on 64-bit processor seems like a waste of cpu cycles.

How is Windows Voice Control inferior to Siri? We clearly saw the demo during the Windows Phone conference where Joe used a Windows 8 tablet to use voice command.

hahaha I know, just like the statement that Windows 8 = iOS 5 I mean wtf

and "Tablet + PC apps vs Tablet apps = ?? (colored red as in 'probably ipad better')" also hilarious.
never seen more stupid comparison chart

Is this tablet supposed to come before or after Surface WinRT?

Ahh what. Contrary to popular WinRT is not Windows RT. Anyway I believe you meant Windows RT and it will be released at the same time, presumably as soon at Win 8 goes live. The 3 month hold back is only for Surface pro, not RT

Yeah, yeah, yeah...but Im betting the everyday lingo will start referring to Windows RT as WinRT. Just like with Droid/Android, us techies and programmers will know the diff, but to our moms and best buy sales reps, they will shorten it.

thealexweb said,
Before by about 3 months.

That would be surprising considering the Windows RT version of Surface will be available on GA day.... with Pro being a 3 months behind.

If lenovo can deliver a Windows 8 tablet before Surface Pro, they may get the lion's share of the Windows 8 tablet market.

Resolution is a bit of bust but this looks it will be one of the more affordable win8 tablets. A proper digitiser with a competitive priced win8 tablet would be great.

truth is that the res is actually very good for the screen size, of course it could be 1080*1920 but if it were then the price would go up with battery consumption! So I think this is a good start, probably more consumer orientated as it doesn't have a 3.0 or HDMI/DisplayPort but hell its 500% more of a business orientated device than the iPad.

ingramator said,

Specs say it has mini-HDMI connector so would just need the appropriate cable.
