Microsoft is bringing an Avatars app to Windows 10

If you have used an Xbox 360 or later, you will be familiar with the avatars that you can create. Looking to go beyond the console, Microsoft has announced that an Avatars app will be coming to Windows 10 and that they will be sharing more later this week.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the app will allow you to create and modify your avatar in Windows 10. The app will then link to your gamercard so that when you hit save, the updates will appear on your console.

Major Nelson said on Twitter that they will be sharing more about the update later this week which will hopefully include a release date. Seeing that BUILD is occurring next week, it would not be too surprising to see this app arrive with the next build of Windows 10 released to Insiders.

Microsoft is expected to make some large updates to the avatars since they have been rarely used since their first appearance with the Xbox 360. If this app is any indication of the company's plans for the digital figures, this could be the start of the announcements about where else these digital representations of you will show up.

Microsoft is gearing up for its next conference which takes place in San Francisco starting on April 29th and of course, we will be there to cover all the announcements as they occur.

[Update] Looks like Microsoft hit the publish button a little early, check out our hands on with the app here.
