Motorola holding its own NYC press event September 5th

Earlier this week, Microsoft and Nokia sent out a joint press announcement inviting members of the media to a event that will be held on September 5th in New York City. Now, Motorola (and by association its new parent company Google) have also revealed they will be holding an event on the same day and in the same city.

Venture Beat reports that the invite they received simply said, "Motorola: On Display. Join us for the day's main event." That does sound like Motorola is telling the invited press that their press event will be "better" than Microsoft and Nokia's conference.

There's no other word on what might be shown by Motorola, although the article speculates that the "On Display" term could mean that we could see a new tablet from the company. The previously released Android-based Motorola Xoom tablets have not been all that successful, at least in terms of sales.

The press invite comes just a few days after Google announced that it would lay off 20 percent of Motorola's team members, along with closing 94 of its offices worldwide. Google officially closed the deal on the $12.5 billion acquisition of the smartphone and tablet company in May.

Google is the greatest company in the world. I don't just say that as an industry veteran, I say that as a former shareholder of Motorola. Google took our money-losing, going nowhere company and paid us $12.5 BILLION dollars for it. Now that's faith.

Thanks for all the money. I've invested it in Microsoft. Now I'm secure again.

motorola/google doing what they only know what to do, copy. what an embarassement these people working there must be. i would hate to know these people.

Then I guess you also hate knowing Microsoft, Apple, and every other company in existance. Because they all copy.

To be fair MS/Nokia event is @ 9am EST; Motorola event is @ 2pm.

I think they are just piggy backing on the large number of media that will already be in NY for MS/Nokia event.

If the time is what you say it is, then yes, it looks like they are piggy backing on Nokia/Msoft.

If nokia is paying travel fares for any journalist etc to attend, they should add a clause that you have to leave on a flight before 3pm

This is just wrong. Google what happened to "Dont be evil?".

From what I understand, it is on the blogger/journalist to find their own way to the event.

Maybe a blogger can answer this question: "Are all expenses (hotel, airfare, etc.) paid for be the event holder or by the attendee."

Andrew Bares from WMPoweruser here: We pay our own travel and expenses.

Maybe the big news sites like cnet and ABC get it paid for, but then again they're so big that it doesn't matter and it's cheap for them to fly.

Believe it or not, Microsoft copies a ton too. So does Apple. And every other company out there.

Not sure if you have noticed, but of the 3, Microsoft seems to be the most original lately.

well, It probably would be a better event.

A Motorola press conference? You've got to be kidding. They only manufacture junk phones.

why? Just because you think MS event is better? Maybe in your land of fud!

It's pretty obvious that he's response is due to your blanket statement with no justification or reasoning, a.k.a. a typical fanboy.

But it would take logic to think of that, hence your response.

I didn't say that the MS event is better or worse, but don't let that stop you from making illogical claims about me.

I thought I made my post clear, but I'll clarify for you: If you post dribbling nonsense like "it probably is better" without explaining to people how or why, you'll get responses like you did in this thread. Why? Because people will assume you're a sensationalist Google fanboy, which to be fair, you are! :-)
