I tried Thunderbird 3.0 a while ago, but decided to go back to the older version. Unfortunately, the Lightning add-on and Provider for Google Calendar are not supported in the newer release. Once they get support, I will be upgrading.

Never used Thunderbird before. Want to give it a shot now. Can't find instructions for gmail imap with Thunderbird 3? I searched but it looks like instructions are there for version 2 only.
Any help would be appreciated.

Create a new mailbox, aslong as imap is enabled in your gmail account thunderbird will do it all for you.

Is it possible to access my Windows Live account with this? If so, I'm totally ditching the Live suite!

I'm pretty sure that you can... If I recall correctly Microsoft opened up their e-mail to pop accounts a while back...

I have it set up in mine, and it works fine. As M_Lyons10 said, it's been possible for quite some time now. Here's a link with the settings info: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/01/16/hotmail-free-pop3-and-smtp-access-and-server-configuration-settings/

Good patch, fixed some annoyances that were present in 3.0, especially with rss newsfeeds.

Yeah? I'm hoping this fixed some issues I had with archiving messages and with the new message search... I LOVE the message search, but it has some bugs in 3.0.0.x...

Nope... Seems like the search filters are still a bit buggy... I hope this is fixed in the next build... It still has a hard time finding messages from me...

When upgrading from 2.0 to 3.1, it gives me a problem fetching my mail which says that it could not get the password or some crap. According to the MozillaZine Knowledge database it means my profile is corrupt. Downgrading back to 2.0 works fine. Im not sure whats wrong with this new release.

Sorry, but I don't use an e-mail client.

E-mail has become abundant for a lot of people. Hardly ever use it myself except receiving reciepts from stores and notifications from forums etc. Working in a newspaper, we tend to use instant messaging more than e-mail in our work environment also.
