Neowin: Now hiring driven and motivated writers

This Fall, Neowin has several news poster positions available. If you have a passion for writing informative and inspiring news articles, Neowin might be the right place for you. We are looking for writers in all timezones and prefer native English speakers.

What are our expectations?

  • Be active: We require no less than 4 articles a week, but the more the better. We pay our writers per original article depending on the comments/hits. This won't replace your full time job, but is an easy way to earn extra cash for an MP3 player or copy of Windows 7.
  • We expect all articles to be originally written, we have strict guidelines for approvals. You must be proficient in English and grammar. We understand no one is perfect, but we do have high standards in order for a post to be approved on the main page.
  • You need to be able to bite your tongue when negative criticism occurs. It happens from time to time, but remember you represent Neowin on and off this site.
  • Although not mandatory, living near a convention/tech hotspot such as LA, Seattle, New York, or Tokyo would be a plus.
  • The ability to bite your tongue when comments on your news posts are off base and not incite a battle on the front page.

We do not assign people to different areas unlike other established news sources. Our writers will write from a variety of different categories.

Here's a general idea of what we cover here at Neowin:

  • Microsoft
  • Apple
  • Linux
  • Gaming
  • Software
  • Hardware
  • Gadgets
  • Mobile Devices
  • Editorials & Reviews

Think you have what it takes?

You can apply by visiting www.neowin.net/contact/apply and following the instructions.

Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to reply to all applications.

Thanks and Good luck!

I previously applied for a Neowin writing job and was offered one. I turned it down due to the required minimum of 4 articles per week. It's just too much when juggling other commitments, especially for the low-low compensation. I would gladly write about open source and linux (as many members are asking for here), as I work for one of the big players in that world, Red Hat. However, I just get turned off by the unnecessary minimums that are applied on the site.

Neowin, if you're reading this, you're turning potential people away by having meaningless restrictions on what's required. Loosen it up and you might get more people willing to write quality content from great vantage positions within the industry.

4 a week really isn't a lot to ask of someone seriously wanting to contribute. It is however if you haven't got any time for it. Plus our rates are fair from the low end to the top end, I don't know when you applied, but we also do bonuses now based on weekly performance and overall monthly hits. Those only apply to the people who can certainly meet the minimum at least.

Unless you can write 3 a week that drives more hits than someone writing, say ten a week.

I would want to apply but writing 4 articles per week a minimum is a bit hard for me especially since I have my own tech blog to write to Oh well, maybe when I stop working full time then I'll have the time

Hey new writers: more articles/posts on free/open source software and free culture!

See my comment below and send a tip to the Neowin staff

You're always hiring "driven and motivated" writers year after year, yet articles keep getting worse in terms of quality. Your driven and motivated writers generally can't spell and have no understanding of how to properly write an article. This never was the place where unprofessional journalism looked best.

I've never had a problem with the articles on Neowin.

I am totally with you on that. Already I see people (a couple posts above), mocking wanting to be a writer and yet with so many grammar errors. With that kind of attitude and the non-serious mood, I would not hire to write news for me.

I would prefer slightly fewer but more relevant posts per day, if it makes any difference The news postcount is almost perfect, but less is more imo.

How about quality and motivated cause the quality of articles are definitely not as good as when I first joined in the early 2000s

I R wanted to write newspapers artikles for a long time. Is they needing more peoples to fulfill out applikations? I wants to maked better place to reed artikles and talk about Microsofts and Apples. Androids is good too and they have funny little green man. Makes me laughs.

Please do the needful.

I would honestly apply if I had the time, but I own my own news site, plus I write articles for another one once in a while, so I simply do not have the time right now

Good luck to anyone that applies though, and I hope to be reading their quality content soon

More Linux news. OmgUbuntu are trouncing you because they find so much Linux news where as this site seems like an Apple and WP7 buff site.
