PES 2009 Forced Back To Drawing Board

Pro Evolution Soccer creator Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has revealed that he's gone back to the drawing board for PES 2009 following the criticism of the 2008 edition on PS3.

"It's so far from what we wanted", Seabass said of PES 2008 on PS3 in an interview with PSM3 magazine in its latest issue (#95), echoing words said to CVG in October. "In fact," he continued, "we thought about delaying it but different factors meant we had to [release it]".

"As a developer, we've worked the same way since the days of the SNES. We're simply not set up for multi-platform development". But, asking us to look at the way the PS2 version panned out from the first to the last game, Seabass reassured that the development team is well on course to follow suit on PS3.

However, the criticisms levelled at PES 2008 on PS3 have forced the series' creator back a peg or two with PES 2009.

"PES 2009 is in development, but after hearing the criticism, we'll be taking it back to the drawing board. It might not be next year, but it will be soon", Seabass explained.

Not meaning to start a flame war this is why I switched to Fifa 08 I have to agree PES6 was great but on the other hand Fifa keeps improving and the online play is smooth I really hope the PES guys (PES dispensers lol) can get it right.

I had a coulpe of hours of fifa08 on my brothers 360, Still not a patch on PES2008.

I think there was a patch released for pes today maybe that will address the slow replays and online lag.

I played this twice on my aging PC. PES6 rocked and ran absolutely fine. PES2008, is less agile in terms of player movement, and is SERIOUSLY over specced considering what you get.

I have to say it's the one PES/ISS game I haven't and won't be paying for. I'm happy with my PES6

there are problems on all platforms for pes2008

and i think the problems are all pretty much the same.. slow replays being the biggest issue but on line play can be a bit laggy

and for me it does look a little 'jaggie' but i think thats because of the 720 signal on my 1080p screen..

still, awesome game.. play it every day ;D

PES 2008 UK on my xbox360 is not smooth on replays (using vga cable hd / 60hz). I was a bit dissapointed with this (PES 6 hasn't such problem).

PES has always had bad ports, pes 5/6 on the PC had ps2 controllers in the options and used the ps2 symbols for buttons etc, PES 2008 then used the 360 controllers/symbols etc. The games always looked a direct port with no consideration to what the target platform was, PES5/6 were plagued with a horizontal line where the engine was showing 2 frames or something as though it couldnt update fast enough.

Without having a PS3, does the PS3 have the 360 controllers/icons in it?
