Tesla CEO Elon Musk shares photos of the first production Model 3

As we reported earlier in the week, the Model 3, Tesla’s mass-market electric car, passed all regulatory requirements and the first 30 deliveries to customers will take place at a handover party on July 28.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter today to share two photos of the first production unit to roll off the assembly line. Musk will take the car home with him, as he has done with earlier models. Tesla board member Ira Ehrenpreis was the first to put down his deposit to reserve the highly anticipated vehicle, but he gave up that spot to Musk as a present for his 46th birthday.

Besides the first 30 cars to be delivered this month, a hundred more are expected in August, with that number growing to 1,500 by September. By December, the company hopes to have ramped up production to 20,000 cars per month.
