I'm still waiting for MS to come up with something that supports skinning the way XP did.

I like Aero a lot, and I don't use any Vista themes because I've only seen themes that change the color, add or subtract transparency and you can stop counting...

In Windows 7 I'm still using Aero but I definitively miss the kind of skins you could use in XP. Oh, and they were (still are) a lot to choose from.

The skin in the screenshot is nice. Hopefully, skilled people would come with lots of good skins for WB.

. . .still like the idea of being able to change icons with iconpackager—hope they put a version soon for win 7, would pay for that. . .

sailing trains? that's good stuff you're on. some skins are guady but not ugly. some skins are minimalistic and ugly. it all depends on the tastes of the individual. some people prefer the guady type of skin, some don't.

gaudy, not guady. i really should proofread my post before hitting "enter". and yes, i very rarely capitalize.

For people that like to skin this is great. I liked doing it 5-6 years ago too. I do like the minimalist themes they have in the screenshot. Now I think for me as I get older just using Aero in Win 7 works great.

Stardock makes good software for its clients.

Wow, those are ugly as sin. That kind of thing was appealing in 2003. I remember thinking those style skins looked good, and I'm guilty of applying them. But now I feel skins like that Dragon one in the screenshot are just over the top and gaudy.

Personally I set Aero to complete transparent, with no color. Add a nice colorful background and the UI is very attractive.

Yes, I'll give you that Dragon is quite gaudy ... but the others aren't.

They seem quite understated and professional to me...

I agree the Dragon one isn't for everyone, but that's what skinning allows, something for everyone. Some enjoy the gaudiness of the Dragon skin.

I can tell you for a fact that skins like Dragon and the like, are some of the most popular. The problem here is that people associate everything WB skin with something as extravagant as that.

SkinStudio is free, lets see what skins people make.

I'm waiting for a uxtheme patch for windows 7. There are pretty good visual styles at deviantart that I'm sure will get ported to win7 eventually.

uxtheme is not as fully functional as windowblinds, windowblinds can do far more and its possible to create WB skins from uxtheme styles.

Would like to see Stardock put out a beta version that could be used by the public to determine if it is something we would like to purchase. Maybe a 30 day trail version like they have with Windowbilinds 6 or IconPacker 4. Sure would be nice. . .

Once the product is released they may very well do that, but WB7 is not out yet. It's still in beta.
