WindowBlinds 7.3

Stardock has released the 7.3 update for WindowBlinds.  WindowBlinds is an application that lets users completely change the look and feel of XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  This is done by applying one of thousands of skins available for download via sites like WinCustomize or DeviantART.

Included in this update:

  • New Metro skin
  • New Windows 8 skin
  • Enhanced support for Office 2010
  • Various other fixes and updates

A free trial for WindowBlinds is available, and the enhanced version can be purchased for just $19.95, or as part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements.

I know people really didn't like Vista (and still don't), but I saw WindowBlinds hold good popularity for a while when everyone wanted the look of Vista, not the annoyances or slow downs that come with it.

DAT TRANSPARENCY

I used Object Desktop for many years, back when it was on OS/2 Warp and on to Windows NT/2000/XP. Windowblinds was one of the utilities I used continuously. But every decent theme started costing extra money and with Win7 I just didn't see the point in continuing.

the fact that its still around doesnt shock me, what shocks me is they are charging money to have the worst desktop UI imaginable. does stardock (the reason why neowin still mentions them now and again) still put money into neowin?

i remember when i used windowblinds! saddly its always wasn't cool enough for me. specially since i never found good themes :\.

i better used Hyperdesk themes in the end. they look way better and really cool and well they aren't expensive! I should try to install them on Dev Preview. i havent tried since i dont have any hopes it will work haha.

Been using it since it first hit the street way back when, and still do. Will have to agree there are some really ugly themes out there, albeit there are some that look pretty nice. If you are a big Mac OS X theme fan then this is the way to go if you are not looking to hack your system (just a thought).

Yeah the quality of that video is like a 7 or so....

... on the other hand, what dock and player is that?

Also, there are some nice skins for Window Blinds... goes a little bit further than just a uxtheme hack.

Btw, I just download to see how it looks with that Metro skin.. but I can't seem to find it

Yes.

I'm not a fan of that skin either. For that matter, nor am I a fan of the Windows 8 Metro look. With that said, I'm betting if that was a uxtheme hack (or however it's done with Win7) skin, I'm sure you and others would be praising it for its minimalistic qualities.

BTW, I'm talking about the skin in the OP, not the one of Killa's desktop.

wow, I haven't used WindowBlinds since back in the XP days

Same here. It used to pi$$ off my ex-wife something fierce when she would sit down at the computer and it had a whole new theme.

I last used it with Windows 98. Are the themes still as ugly as they used to be?

Judging from that screenshot I'm guessing yes.

All of the good skins cost money, very few dont. Most are huge and clinky and poorly made. WB also doesnt skin alls like opera/chrome and its utterly ugly now..i tried 7.3 today actually and even firefox looked bad in it(where it has just the firefox button..the whole top and caption buttons dont show at all)...

Yeah, I never understood the point in paying for a program, then paying for a skin, only to be moderately satisfied for a little while before you change it or stop using it.
