Windows Phone 8 accent colors supposedly revealed

Windows Phone 8 will bring many new features to the platform including a highly customizable home screen. To customize the home screen even further than tile size and location, users will be able to select from a wide range of color options to match their live tiles to their personalities.

While Windows Phone 7 came with just a few options, it looks like Windows Phone 8 will come with an ever wider color pallet for you to select from. The image above is supposedly the color options that will be available when the platform launches in late October.

If true, Microsoft will allow users to select from a decent range of color options but we still wonder why there is not a true color wheel that allows you to select from any color. Microsoft may be holding this feature back for a later release or there could be some other unknown reason why we can't select any color we want, but at this time, we can't think of any valid reason for holding this feature back.

This upcoming week will be an exciting time for Windows Phone fans as Nokia's press event will kick-off later this week. Expected are several new devices from the vendor that will hopefully raise the bar when it comes to mobile phone standards and Neowin will be in NY to cover all the action.

finally some less annoying colors. the old pallete was more suited to a lego set than a serious phone.

still, a color picker missing from the standard OS is an epic failure and the windows phone team should be ashamed of themselves for not letting us do what windows 95 did: select a color.

Steel, Cyan and maybe Emerald. Then again, it's nice to have options. Some people might like Cobalt. I would have loved to have seen maybe Black or White. Black on White background a viceversa. It would've been interesting.

I like the dark Blue Nokia offers; is it going to be "Exclusive" to Nokia again? I agree with other people here: a true color wheel would have been better.

Will these accent colors be available in the upcoming 7.8 update or are they strictly only for WP8?

'Wide Range' as long as its an approved colour of 20. Thats not a wide range. How about any colour you want? Talk about iPhone being locked down with no choice! The yellow looks like baby poo.

What's with the stupidly over bright colour schemes? Win 8 is no better, there is only like 1 or 2 colours I can bear to look at for more than a few seconds without my eyes bleeding

I love the bright colours It's one of the reasons I love "Metro" so much.

I do see where you're coming from, though. It would have been nice if they had/could have catered to both of our tastes, with more options.

Yea, I'm more of a subtle colours type person, I stare at my screens for a long time each day, I need them to be easy on the eyes

A slider option like the desktop part of 8 has for its colour scheme would be much better

A true color wheel really wouldn't make much sense. It wouldn't be as easy to use as allowing people to select from a list of color options and wouldn't be used by the vast majority of people either...

Yeah, I've never liked using color pickers on touchscreen devices because every time I get the color I want, it changes right after I get my finger off the screen.

Still, they could add a "custom color" option and keep the stock accent colors as well.

Thankfully, they haven't modified the current accent colors (apart from brown, which seems a bit more washed out now). I don't really like any of those new accent colors that much though, so I'm going to stick with my purple/violet theme.

Glad they finally added grey / "steel". Really missing that option. I have OS X Mountain Lion's Aqua set to Graphite as well. Much easier on the eyes.

And don't forget Sienna and Mauve, included just for those people who were born without personalities!

I would still have preferred if they'd designed Windows Phone 8 to look more like Windows 8, with each app having the same coloured tile as its respective Windows 8 app, and the apps themselves being the same colours as the Windows 8 versions (instead of white or black).

There could be valid reasons as to why they haven't (e.g. battery life), but I'll just be very disappointed if they haven't. The People app in Windows 8 and the People website (people.live.com) both use the same design idea, with the same colours, but it seems that the People app in Windows Phone 8 won't be designed with those same colours.

Unless of course I'm jumping the gun. But, in June, Joe Belfoire made it sound as if the general Windows Phone 8 design would be pretty much the same, just with more accent colours.
