World of Warcraft Guild Banned For "Cheating"

The World of Warcraft guild Overrated has been permanently banned by Blizzard Entertainment after it was caught cheating in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Guild members used an exploit that essentially knocked down walls, according to postings on World of Warcraft-related forums. The guild had been playing the level of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, also known as AQ40. In it, the dungeon level map progresses in a circular manner from the first to last bosses. The mod effectively allowed the guild to bypass what it refers to as "C'thun trash," bosses who dropped less lucrative items. Guild members could then move on to the final boss, C'thun, who drops more valuable goodies. Pantaloons, a member of the Overrated guild, commented on the WOW forums, "Let me explain. We are the only US Horde guild that clears Naxx [the most challenging area of the game], been like that for a few weeks. People found that the pre-C'thun trash was so painful, that they decided to install some stupid thing that deletes walls or something, and you can just run there after Skeram [the first boss]. I know, we had it coming, blah blah whatever, we know we deserve it...I'm sure they'll try and get it rescinded because it's kind of a steep punishment with no recourse or whatever." Go look at other guilds, all the people have real lives too...jobs, college, highschool, or kids (and some have a combination), but you don't see everyone going "lets just cheat to make it easy".

They're not crybabies because they did it a few times and decided to cheat to make it easier? Oh that makes perfect sense, thats like saying "hey i was good at this game once so now I'll just cheat to make up for it." GTFO scrubs.

Enjoy the ban maybe they'll get a life.

Wow, half of these replies sound like WoW-aholics.

For those of you Trying to make reason out of Why someone should cheat - "Oh! They were just skipping the easy NPCs... duh...", what that really means is you need to move on, you're not enjoying the game quite as much as you thought you were and Blizzard has a different objective for the game than you do.

My theory on the objective is Blizzard wants everyone to go at their own pace, while half of you are trying to be like the cool kids on the block that have actually played the game for awhile and earned their effects.

hey dont call me surley.

and honestly.. doing an instance MANY times doesnt justify cheating. Just because I waited in line and rode the roller coaster doesnt mean I can get off and cut back to the front of the line to ride it again.

Cheating is cheating.. there is no justifying it.

But surley if they've completed the dungeon muiltple times before and have naxx on farm status they are literally just saving time on the trash mobs that are worthless, seriously aq40 is crap until the last few bosses. They arent whining because it's too hard they have done it lots of times not exactly cry babies

Changing textures or hacking files in order to do something you shouldn't normally be able to do in the game is cheating no matter what you all say.

If you can't play the game fairly then you don't deserve to play it. Stop crying because a certain section of a game is too hard for you or takes too long to get by. It's immature and ridiculous. He's a spoiled little brat crying because he's stuck in a hard part of a game.

Cheater: "Momma...this game is too hard for me"

Mother: "Does the baby need his bottle?"

lmao, why even run AQ40 when you have naxxx on clear? if youre farming for nexus, just clear MC in less than an hour.

ZOMG LAZERS PEW PEW PEW

funny thing is that - if the guild would do pass dungeon slower, noone would catch them cheating !
WTF ! noone scans for cheating normally ?

Is it me or does it seem like Blizzard is pushing someone for their own fault. If the code is written well, there wouldn't be such shortcut by simply changing texture( don't call me on this one since I don't know the hard coding stuff ).

I don't believe it said it was achieved by only replacing a texture. A textures just an image that gets painted onto an object, changing it wouldn't change the geometry of the dungeon. They must have done something else to alter their game files I'd say.

A friend of mine was in that guild, kinda sucks for him since he's been playing since the beta, but on the good side of things, we'll see him during the week now.

he'll be alright, he can just re-roll be or dranei and call it a day. only thing that he should really miss from this is the gold he's accumulated.

How can this be considered cheating? If the guild can defeat the hardest boss in the dungeon, and for a while in the game, obviously they can defeat the lower level bosses. All that they did was save time...what a big difference to the gameplay...

changing the intended gameplay from what blizzard had in mind is cheating. that said, I think everybody would agree that 80% of aq40 is a waste of time and that need to take some of that trash out so make the clear to cthun much faster, so more guilds can bring it back into their weekly rotations. it's a shame you can clear bwl in 2-3 hours, but can't clear aq40 in 3 hours and can barely clear it in 4.5 hours if you are just wipeless for the whole instance.

you put the words into my mouth

Modifying your texture files also does not normally allow you to walk through walls such as they were. They are perma banned and the odds of them getting unbanned are slim to none, guaranteed

If it was an outside program, the ban is well deserved, but mere exploits are not a perma-bannable offense in WoW, if I remember right.

they didnt use a hack
modifying ur texutre files etc isnt bannable
however blizzard tends to change the rules to be pricks

that's kind of funny, you might want to read Section 2 Paragraph C of the Terms of Use. the first sentence says:

"You agree that you will not (i) modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of a World of Warcraft installation;"

any violation of the terms of use can warrant a ban. so, basically the only pricks i see in this situation are the people who don't read the terms of use and then whine when their accounts get banned for violating it.

"I'm sure they'll try and get it rescinded because it's kind of a steep punishment"

Sorry, cheating shouldn't be punishable with banning? You cheat, you get banned, is it not simple enough?
