The P9 Express features Samsung V-NAND TLC flash memory and uses the SM2708 controller. It supports the SD Express standard, utilising a PCIe Gen 3.0 x1 interface with NVMe 1.3, and is compliant with SD 7.1 specifications. Backwards compatibility with UHS-I devices is supported, allowing operation at reduced performance levels. Furthermore, Host Memory Buffer (HMB) support is also included.

In terms of performance, the card supports sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s when operating in SD Express mode, while devices using the UHS-I interface can reach speeds of up to 90MB/s. It carries the U3, V30, and A1 speed class ratings. Moreover, random read and write performance using SD Express reaches up to 65,000 IOPS read, and 52,000 IOPS write at 4KB QD32, and up to 9,000 IOPS read, and 30,000 IOPS write at 4KB QD1. The card is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from 0°F to 113°F and can withstand non-operating temperatures between −40°F and 185°F. The card is also tested for humidity conditions of 40°C at 93% humidity and 85°C at 85% humidity. In terms of physical durability, the connector is rated for approximately 10,000 insertion and removal cycles.
