Acer hits renewable electricity goal ahead of schedule

Acer has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, which details its performance in Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) areas. Most notably, the company achieved its goal of sourcing 60% of its electricity from renewable means one year ahead of its original schedule. This accomplishment keeps the company on track to meet its larger pledge of achieving 100% renewable energy in a decade from now.

The company said that 81% of its critical suppliers have either committed to the RE100 initiative or set science-based carbon reduction targets. The company also mentioned that it introduced its first carbon-neutral laptop, the Aspire Vero 16, which incorporates bio-based materials. On recycling, Acer has produced over 50 million computers and monitors using post-consumer recycled plastics between 2020 and 2024, and it has signed the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) solutions agreement with logistics partners to reduce emissions from transportation.

Reflecting the work it has been doing to clean up its act, Acer said that it received multiple awards and recognitions for its sustainability efforts last year. It was included in the Coporate Knights 2024 Clean200 list and made its debut on the TIME World’s Most Sustainable Companies and the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.

The company has also been on the DJSI Emerging Markets Index for 11 consecutive years and the MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes for 11 years, maintaining a AAA rating since 2021. For the third year in a row, Acer received the Platinum medal from EcoVadis, placing it in the top 1% of rated companies. These accolades underscore the industry’s recognition of Acer’s efforts and the repeated nature of some of these awards points to consistent performance in sustainability.

Going forward, Acer is planning to continue working toward its ESG goals. The company also reaffirmed its target of reaching 100% renewable electricity by 2035. Furthermore, by 2050, it has the goal of reaching net-zero emissions. You can check out the full report now.
