Back in February 2025, after several delays, Amazon finally revealed Alexa+, its next-generation AI assistant built on Amazon’s own Nova models and Anthropic"s model. After several months of beta testing and a limited roll-out, today Amazon announced that Alexa+ is finally available for everyone in the US.
Amazon highlighted that Alexa+ Early Access feedback revealed that customers still rely on Alexa for familiar everyday requests, but they’re also embracing Alexa+"s capabilities by shifting from short, formulaic commands to deeper conversations. They’re also using Alexa+ across more surfaces, chatting on the go in the Alexa app and doing deeper research, planning, and content generation on Alexa.com, with Amazon claiming overall engagement is more than double.
Daniel Rausch, Vice President, Alexa and Echo, said the following regarding the Alexa+ launch:
"Alexa+ builds on what customers have always loved about Alexa, but it’s also completely new and significantly more capable—it’s smarter, more conversational, more personalized, and can get a wide range of things done on your behalf. The response from customers has been inspiring—millions of customers quickly reached out asking for access, and over time, tens of millions joined our Early Access program."
Unlike the previous version of Alexa, which was completely free to access for everyone, Alexa+ will be available in the US with the following options:
- Alexa+ for Prime: All Amazon Prime members in the US can get unlimited access to the full set of Alexa+ capabilities across Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com, and the Alexa app for free.
- New Alexa+ chat (free): Non-Prime customers in the US can try out Alexa+ via Alexa.com and in the Alexa app. However, this will be a text-based experience with a limited usage limit.
- Alexa+: Alexa+ will also be available as a separate subscription for $19.99 per month. With this subscription, customers can get unlimited access to Alexa+ via Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com, and the Alexa app.
Amazon Prime members can start using Alexa+ today by saying, “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+” through voice or by visiting Alexa.com using their Prime account. Non-Prime customers can also start using the new free chat experience through Alexa.com.
