AMD Hammer is just a codename

At the end of this year we"ll see AMD"s Clawhammer and next year Sledgehammer – we saw the introductions at IDF-time and of course at CeBIT more recently.

This new technology that AMD rather likes to consider as an "evolution" rater then a "revolution" is unlikely to be called by the name Hammer at launch.

Which is a shame. We saw before how the K7 became the undoubtedly weird "Athlon", stepping on the toes of a baseball team based in Ieper, Belgium.

And Palomino became Athlon XP with Thoroughbred likely to go that way too.

But we wonder if dropping the "Hammer" codename is such a good idea?
