Andy Rubin has reportedly returned to work at Essential

It was only last week that the founder and CEO of Essential, Andy Rubin, took a leave of absence for personal reasons. According to a report, Rubin has now returned to his post at the startup.

While neither the company, nor Rubin went any further in regards to the reason for the leave, the timing of it led some to believe that it was due to a report that was published by The Information, detailing the circumstances of his departure from Google in 2014. Allegedly, he had an inappropriate relationship with a woman during his time at the company. Rubin’s spokesperson Mike Sitrick, denied the leave had to do with the story.

Essential has had quite a tough time over the past several months. Although it managed to generate quite a bit of buzz when it first announced its handset, its many missteps, have put a sour taste in the mouths of many. Recently, the company has tried to regain some of its momentum by discounting its handset and also engaging more with its consumers.
