Apple has bundled all of its creative apps into a bundle and called it Apple Creator Studio. It"s a $12.99/mo subscription that gives access to various paid apps, including Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Pixelmator Pro, alongside new AI features and premium content.
Pixelmator Pro is an image editing app previously available for Mac. It just got an iPad version, which will arrive alongside the Apple Creator Studio on January 28. This leads us to the question of what will happen to the original Pixelmator app and the Photomator app on iOS.
Apple has addressed the situation on its official website, making it clear that Pixelmator for iOS is now a thing of the past. Pixelmator for iOS will continue to be available on the App Store, but won"t receive any software updates.
"Pixelmator Classic for iOS, released in 2014 as a companion app to the now-discontinued Pixelmator Classic for Mac, provides basic image editing features such as cropping, color adjustments, and effects. It remains a functional app but is no longer being updated," Apple said in the FAQ section.
The image editor was founded in 2007 by Saulius and Aidas Dailide and was later acquired by Apple in 2024. Regarding the Photomator app, Apple said that it will be available on the App Store as a separate purchase, suggesting that it will continue to get software updates in the future.
While both apps remain on the App Store, Photomator will continue to serve as an up-to-date image-editing solution for iPhone. Both apps were last updated a few months ago, according to their App Store changelog.
For iPads, the new Pixelmator Pro will serve as a replacement for the classic version as part of Apple Creator Studio, arriving later this month. Apple said that the new Pixelmator Pro app is built from scratch for the iPadOS, bringing a new touch-optimized workspace for iPad users, paired with full Apple Pencil support, the ability to work between iPad and Mac, and a new Warp tool.
