Until now, Apple Watch could only read and reply to notifications from WhatsApp. However, they did not have access to the rest of the features, such as receiving call notifications, reading full messages, or even recording and sending voice messages. Fortunately for them, the wait is now finally over.
WhatsApp on Tuesday via an official blog post announced a full-blown Apple Watch companion app. After installing the app, Apple Watch owners will be able to send or receive voice messages, reply to text messages, send emojis, dictate text, or even check photos and videos sent to them without needing to open their iPhone.
The app was under beta testing for some time, and now it is finally available. WhatsApp wrote, "This new experience will help you stay on top of your chats without needing to pull out your iPhone." Apple Watch users will also be able to view the chat history right from their wrist, thanks to the WhatsApp companion app.
As always, all of your personal messages and calls will be kept private through end-to-end encryption. Additionally, WhatsApp also shared its plans to bring more new features to the Apple Watch companion app in the near future.
As for which Apple Watch devices are supported, according to WhatsApp, you need to have an Apple Watch 4 or later running watchOS 10 or later to install and use the WhatsApp Apple Watch companion app.
The WhatsApp Apple Watch companion app was inevitable because a while ago, WhatsApp also debuted its long-awaited iPad app. Using the iPad app, users can now place a video or voice call to up to 32 people using both the front and rear cameras, or even share their screen, which can be good for teachers or someone who wants to explain things.
