AT&T Considers Joining Google's Wireless Group

Phone-company AT&T is reportedly talking to internet search giant Google about joining its mobile-phone software alliance. According to an interview on Friday with Ralph de la Vega, chief executive officer of the AT&T"s wireless unit, the two companies are "analyzing the situation," with AT&T possibly using Google"s software for phones. Vega refused, however, to give details of discussions and said he hasn"t personally met with any Google representatives. This move comes after the search-engine company announced Nov. 5 that it would work with 33 companies to develop software for mobile phones. Wireless carriers Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA have already joined the alliance, looking for features such as local shopping searches that could help them lure new customers.
