Attack of the Clones: Chuwi produces its own Surface Pro 4 lookalike starting at $299

It was two years ago that Microsoft launched its Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. Since that time, there have been multiple companies that have attempted to create an alternative and cheaper solution to the Surface Pro 4. Chuwi has now thrown its hat into the ring, offering a device that is extremely similar in design, with quite a bit of power, and is priced starting at $299.

As you can see from the image and video above, the SurBook takes a lot of inspiration from the Pro 4. It offers a 12.3-inch display, comes in an all metal design, has a flexible hinge mechanism and even has the ability to link up to a backlit keyboard. Unfortunately, you won"t find this device on the shelves at your local electronics retailer.

Instead, you"ll need to back the project on Indiegogo for a starting price of $299. This will get you the SurBook with 64GB storage. If you are looking for something more, you can opt for the $349 package that will include a keyboard and stylus. Those looking for the best possible configuration will want to fund the $399 version, that will offer 128GB of storage.

Chuwi SurBook specifications:

  • 12.3-inch (2736 x 1824 resolution) display
  • Intel Celeron N3450
  • 6GB DDR3
  • 64GB or 128GB of storage with microSD expansion
  • USB Type-C x 1, USB Type-A 3.0 x 2
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 5MP camera with 2MP front-facing camera
  • 10,000mAh battery
  • Windows 10

Although the project has a month to go before closing, it has already exceeded its $30,000 goal, raising $103,000 so far.
