Chrome OS 87 adds Bluetooth device battery levels and tab search

Google is rolling out a new version of Chrome OS, bringing it in line with the version of the Chrome browser, which was updated to version 87 a couple of weeks ago. Chrome OS 87 only includes a few changes, starting with support for Bluetooth battery levels.

Google began adding this capability to Android back in 2017, allowing users to see the battery level of connected Bluetooth accessories, such as headphones, directly on the phone. Now, Chrome OS devices will show a notification with the battery level when an accessory is connected. This can also be checked in the Quick Settings panel.

Another new feature is tab search in the Chrome browser. Accessed through the browser menu, this feature allows users to search for tabs across all open browser windows to find what they"re looking for.

While Google isn"t mentioning it in its release notes, the company announced some improvements to the handwriting experience a few days ago. The on-screen keyboard should now do a better job of recognizing handwriting and annotations, making the experience more fluid.

Finally, Chrome OS 87 has 36 new wallpapers to choose from, thanks to a collaboration with four different artists.

As usual, this update is rolling out gradually, and it should be available to supported devices in the next few days.
