Crucial P310 4TB NVMe 2280 SSD with heatsink has never been cheaper

For those looking for a solid NVMe SSD for their system, Micron"s Crucial P310 4TB drive is currently at its lowest price (purchase link down below). This follows the recent discount on the 1TB SKU of the same model which is still up for sale at just $60.

Under the hood, the P310 is built on PCIe Gen4 × 4 lanes and NVMe 1.4 drivers to hit up to 7100 MB/s sequential read and 6000 MB/s sequential write speeds that should shave minutes off game loads and file transfers. Its random I/O throughput checks in at 1 million K IOPS read and 1 million K IOPS write.

The P310 is DRAM-less but uses Micron’s in-house controller and a Host Memory Buffer (HMB) to tap into system DRAM in order to sustain peak write performance without throttling. This buffer cache is meant to improve write caching and random access times with quicker metadata look-ups.

For set-up and firmware updates as well as health monitoring (SMART), download and install Crucial’s Storage Executive software. And for cloning, Acronis software can be used.

The main drawback of the drive is its rated endurance of 800 TBW (terabytes written) since it is a QLC (quad-level cell) NAND flash SSD. So if you are looking for a device that will be tasked to daily sustained reads and writes for long hours this is not ideal. You can consider the 4TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus instead which is a TLC NAND drive with much higher endurance and is still available for just $235.
