Dark theme, Mac News app, App Store video preview support likely coming with macOS 10.14

Ahead of Apple"s Worldwide Developer"s Conference (WWDC), which will start on June 4, fresh details about the tech giant"s next-generation operating system for computers have surfaced online. Developer Steve Troughton Smith posted a set of purported macOS 10.14 screenshots via his Twitter account (via 9to5Mac), revealing the first look at Xcode 10 and new upcoming features such as a dark theme, Mac News app, and a video preview support for the Mac App Store.

First off, it"s worth pointing out that the leak comes from a 30-second video preview of Xcode on macOS 10.14 that pops up in the Mac App Store API, so it"s safe to assume the details are legit.

Currently, videos are not supported on the Mac App Store, and Smith noted that this should have been concealed in the app store page"s API. The fact that a video preview is included in the Mac App Store API indicates that macOS 10.14 will likely introduce video preview support to the App Store app.

The screenshots also suggest that the upcoming OS will include a dark user interface that affects all applications. The OS" current dark theme option only applies to the menu and dock bars. Like the dark theme for those bars, the system-wide dark UI is also supposed to be optional as the Xcode storyboard window has an interface that allows developers to switch between light and dark themes. However, the all-inclusive dark appearance won"t likely come to iOS as Smith observed no relevant button for that option in the iOS storyboard.

More details about the upcoming macOS version will come to light next week as WWDC gets into full swing in San Jose, California. Meanwhile, you can view the screenshots in the gallery below.
