Dell announces new Latitude Rugged laptops for the toughest conditions

Dell today is introducing a refreshed lineup of Latitude Rugged PCs, including the 5420, 5424, and 7424. They"re available with sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-generation U-series processors, and the reason for that is because businesses can still get sixth-gen processors configured with Windows 7.

They also all include a Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 4G LTE model, and that means that these machines are capable of download speeds of 1.2Gbps. That means that users have fast connectivity almost anywhere they go. They support AT&T"s First Net with Band 14, which is a dedicated network for first responders.

All of these PCs are meant for the most extreme conditions. The biggest quality that they have is that workers can take them into the field, and they won"t break.

The Latitude Rugged 5420 is meant to be thin and light, coming in at just 4.9 pounds. Like the rest of the pack, it"s MIL STD-810G tested, so it"s been dropped from three feet, and it"s dust-, vibration-, shock-, humidity-, and altitude-proof, as well as being able to handle extreme temperatures. The Latitude Rugged 5424 is a similar device in a larger form factor, starting at 5.5 pounds.

The Latitude Rugged 7424 is the flagship of the bunch. It"s IP-65 rated, so it"s dust-tight and it"s protected against pressurized water. It"s been dropped from 72 inches, and can handle the things above along with blowing rain, blowing dust, blowing sand, salt fog, explosive atmosphere, solar radiation, and more.

They all offer 14-inch 1080p displays, and dedicated AMD Radeon 540 or RX540 graphics, so customers don"t need to make a compromise when they choose the rugged form factor.

The Latitude Rugged 5424 and 7424 start at $1,499 and $3,499, respectively, while their predecessors started at $1,299 and $3,399. The Latitude 5420 starts at $1,399, and this one is all new, so there"s no previous model.
