EA looks beyond core markets with Hasbro family titles

Have you long suffered without a electronic version of "Littlest Pet Shop"? Well, your worries may be coming to an end soon. Electronic Arts announced upcoming games based on popular Hasbro properties as an important part of its push to make video games for a broader audience.

The first wave of games will hit mobile phones this spring and will include versions of "Monopoly", "Trivial Pursuit", "Risk" and "Yahtzee". Games based on the girl-oriented "Littlest Pet Shop" and boy-focused "Nerf N-Strike" will come out for Nintendo"s Wii console and DS handheld. EA is also working on console versions of "Monopoly", "Scrabble" and other titles that will be announced later this year.

The rampant success of the Wii console, which has largely been successful by targeting an audience outside of the core 10 to 24 year old male range, has encouraged game developers to think outside of the traditional box.
