The long time coming survival shooter, Fortnite by Epic Games is finally on its way to the hands of gamers, with the studio announcing that a paid early access period will start in July. A brand new trailer has also been released, seen above, detailing the game"s core gameplay mechanics that players can expect to experience.
Fortnite was announced way back in 2011, and has been showcased at multiple conventions such as E3 since then, although with a consistently absent a launch date.
The gameplay consists of a group of players scavenging the world for supplies to build custom forts, which are then used to hold back the tide against hordes of monsters. Players can also build traps in various formations, supplementing the use of their weapons for surviving the waves.
In a statement, the game"s creative director Darren Sugg, said that “Bringing Fortnite to life has been a true labor of love by a talented and dedicated team over many years,” and that the studio is "excited to share the experience and start playing along with more gamers in Early Access this summer.”
The Fortnite early access period will begin on July 25 for PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. A selection of game packages are available for pre-purchase on the official website, ranging from $39.99, all the way up to $149.99, arriving with various bonuses in tow. Moreover, anyone who pre-orders the game will also be able to play the early access four days earlier on July 21, effectively receiving early access to the actual early access.
Although before purchasing, keep in mind that the game is slated to be free-to-play once it jumps out of early access at some point in the future.
