Final Office 2013 Web Apps now available on SkyDrive [Update]

In July, Microsoft announced that a public preview version of the Office 2013 Web Apps suite was available to check out via SkyDrive. While anyone with a SkyDrive account was free to use the new version of Office Web Apps, they were not considered to be the final product.

That changed earlier today thanks to an announcement, via Twitter, by Omar Shahine, Microsoft"s group program manager for SkyDrive, that the final versions of the Office 2013 version of Web Apps are now live. There"s no word yet on what changes have been made in between the public preview in July and today"s final version.

Microsoft previously said they have put in features such as touch screen support for devices that supported such hardware, better performance for mobile phone-based web browsers, putting in support for co-authoring in documents and improved performance for editing files.

It"s likely that Microsoft will reveal more information about this final version of Office 2013 Web Apps later this week, perhaps as part of their marketing push for Windows 8, Surface and Windows Phone 8.

Update: Microsoft has posted a new article on its Office blog with more information on the new Office 2013 Web Apps.
