Game of Thrones keeps its title as most pirated TV show for 2013

In 2012, TorrentFreak posted word that, according to its data, the HBO fantasy TV series Game of Thrones was the most pirated show on BitTorrent download sites. This week, the same source claims that Game of Thrones has not given up its position and remains the most pirated TV series in 2013.

The report, which says it used "download statistics reported by public BitTorrent trackers" along with other sources, says that there were 5.9 million downloads of the 2013 Game of Thrones season finale episode. That"s well ahead of the number shown on the list, Breaking Bad, which reportedly had 4.2 million downloads for one episode.

Once more, the leader of HBO"s parent company Time Warner, CEO Jeff Bewkes, claimed earlier this year that the pirating of Game of Thrones episodes online actually turns into more paid customers for the pay cable network. In fact, he said that having the show be labeled as the most pirated was "better than an Emmy."

After Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, the third most pirated show in 2013 was The Walking Dead, followed by The Big Bang Theory and Dexter in fourth and fifth place, respectively. How I Met Your Mother, Suits, Homeland, Vikings and Arrow complete the top 10 list.
