Google has announced that it is bringing a major upgrade to Chrome on Android, introducing an array of AI-powered tools designed to make mobile browsing more intelligent and automated. The rollout, expected to begin next month, is powered by the company’s latest model, Gemini 3.1.
At the centre of the update is Gemini integration directly within Chrome for Android. With this update, users will be able to access the assistant by tapping a new Gemini icon in the browser toolbar, which opens a panel at the bottom of the screen. Once activated, Gemini can analyse the content of the webpage you are currently viewing, allowing you to ask questions about what you are reading, generate summaries of long articles, or get explanations of complex topics without switching between apps.
Furthermore, Gemini in Chrome can interact with services such as Google Calendar, Google Keep, and Gmail, enabling actions like adding events, saving recipe ingredients, or retrieving specific information from emails. For users who opt into Gemini Personal Intelligence, launched in January 2026, the assistant can tailor responses based on the person"s interests, habits, and preferences.
The update also brings creative tools powered by Nano Banana so that users can generate or modify images within Chrome, including transforming web content into visual formats. Nano Banana has been gradually rolling out across Google’s ecosystem with its initial expansion seen in October 2025 to services such as Search and NotebookLM, it later arrived in Google Photos in November 2025.
In addition, auto browse handles routine web activities automatically. Although the capabilities have grown, the company ensures that these features still rely on existing Chrome security protections. Gemini features in Chrome for Android will begin rolling out to selected devices running Android 12 and above in the United States towards the end of June. Meanwhile, only those enrolled in Gemini AI Pro or Gemini Ultra plans can auto browse, again limited to compatible devices on Android 12 and above.
