Google has announced that Gemini Spark, the proactive, always-on AI assistant that Google introduced just a few weeks ago at I/O 2026, has brought its background automation capabilities to Apple users and is now available on macOS.

On macOS, you can ask Gemini Spark to use the latest invoice files saved on your computer to build a budget spreadsheet, or organize messy folders, like sorting all the Word documents in your Downloads folder, all with a simple prompt. To keep your sensitive information secure, the software only accesses files that you explicitly permit.

Google said that its working on a feature that will let you run tasks remotely from your phone so that you do not have to sit in front of your computer. This update lets you assign a multi-step task to the assistant while you are away, telling it to find a specific sales report on your Mac, pull the total revenue number, and email it to you.

Spark also now has access to first-party Google services like Tasks and Keep: you can instruct the agent to scan your lists in Keep and generate action items directly inside Google Tasks.

There are also integrations with popular third-party apps like Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. These let you design custom flyers, share documents, book dinner reservations, order groceries, or schedule an apartment tour. The integrations are rolling out first on the web and mobile, with Mac support coming shortly after.

Other updates to Spark include the ability to monitor web sources and react to events in real time. The agent can track various topics like sports, weather, finance, shopping, and blogs, delivering updates without forcing you to refresh your browser. For example, the agent can send you a detailed financial report if a stock reaches a specific threshold, or generate post-game analysis the exact moment a soccer match ends.

At the moment, Gemini Spark is limited to users aged 18 and older in the US with English set as their primary language, and it requires a $100 per month Google AI Ultra subscription.
