Google Maps updated for Android, improves public transportation experience

Google Maps has added a wealth of new features over the past couple of years, making commuting a more informed experience. While it was reported that the app would be making some additions for those that use public transportation, it has now been made official. The update to Google Maps for Android will keep you informed about departure times, ETAs and also send notifications telling you when you need to get off for your stop or your transfer.

This should be quite useful for those that use public transportation, as you might not be keeping up with your surroundings or might just be unfamiliar with the area. But, if you have Google Maps open, it can alert you just in time so you don"t miss any critical moments when traveling.

In order to take advantage of these new features, you"ll want to make sure your version of Google Maps on Android is up to date. You"ll be looking for version 9.68.2 that was updated on December 14. To see the features in action, simply type in your destination, select transit directions, and you"ll be on your way to getting notified when the important stops or transfers come up.
