The integration of AI features by major corporations into every possible corner of their services continues. Freshest on the menu: a new AI-powered feature for Google Photos that lets you turn yourself into a meme.
Me Meme is now part of the Create section of Google Photos, and it allows users to “create funny, personalized images” and share them with friends and family.
To create a meme, you first need to choose a template from the template library and then select the image you want to turn into a meme. Once you do that, you’ll get an instant meme image that’s ready to share.
Here’s how to use Me Meme inside Google Photos:
- At the bottom, tap Create and then Me Meme.
- Select a template.
- Tap Add photo.
- Select the photo you want to upload.
- Tap Generate.
After you generate a meme, you can save it to your library, regenerate it if you’re unsatisfied with the result, or instantly share it.
Google is now releasing the Me Meme feature to Google Photos users in the US. It’s still in the experimental phase, so not everyone might get it right away.
It’s still unclear whether the Me Meme templates will include any of the well-known existing internet memes. That seems unlikely, due to copyright issues, so if you want to truly turn yourself into one, you’ll probably still have to rely on online meme generators.
But who knows, with the current state of social media (read: the flood of AI-generated content), maybe the next viral meme will be created with Me Meme inside someone’s Google Photos library.
Google’s recent moves imply the company is actively encouraging users to create AI-generated versions of themselves and post that content on the internet. Just yesterday, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced new tools that will allow creators to record Shorts featuring their own deepfakes.
