Google Play celebrates first birthday with special deals

It was a year ago today that the Google Play store was launched, or more accurately, that the Android Market was renamed to Google Play.

To celebrate this, the Google Play team have launched a page with some giveaways that will only be available for a limited (unspecified) time.

On offer are 10% discounts on Hotels.com, a $15 gift card, exclusive characters in Yumby Smash and exclusive deals in both Gnome Village and Royal Revolt games.

Google announced the giveaway early this morning:

It was just a year ago today that we launched this amazing shop on the interwebs to offer the best in digital content. Since the best parties are the ones that send you home with a present, today we celebrate our birthday with a festive goodie bag full of gifts. Don’t delay in picking up these limited-time offers. It’s been an incredible first year and we look forward to sharing the gift of digital diversions for many more to come.

Google Play is an entirely cloud-based solution to purchasing your music, movies, books and apps. This means that all the purchased content a user buys is stored online, and is always available to them, without any fear of losing anything. Google Play can also auto-sync the applications purchased by users to a device of preference.

Fun factoid: Google Play was originally assumed to be the name of a rumoured 7-inch Google Tablet!

In any case, Happy Birthday Google Play!
