Google unveils Pixel Watch 4 with curved display and Satellite SOS

Along with the new Pixel 10-series smartphones, Google today introduced its latest smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 4. The Pixel Watch 4 comes with a first-of-its-kind domed display, support for satellite communication, native Gemini integration, and more.

The Pixel Watch 4 still features the same circular shape. It will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes. Google claims that the Pixel Watch 4 features a first-of-its-kind Actua 360 display. This domed display is physically curved to deliver a 10% larger active area and 16% smaller bezels.

Thanks to the 3000-nit display, users can expect a great viewing experience even outdoors. This display is protected by a custom Corning Gorilla Glass and an aerospace-grade aluminum housing. Google has also made the Pixel Watch 4 more repairable with a replaceable battery and display.

Android"s latest Material 3 Expressive with richer colors, new clock faces, and more glanceable UIs is now available on the Pixel Watch 4. Google has also included a new custom haptic engine that is 15% stronger and an upgraded custom speaker to improve the audio experience.

With the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Wearable Platform and Google"s own next-gen ML-powered co-processor, users can expect better performance and improved battery life. In fact, the Pixel Watch 4 has a 25% longer battery life when compared to the previous generation. With the new Quick Charge Dock, the Pixel Watch 4 can charge from 0-50% in just 15 minutes.

The Pixel Watch 4 LTE supports standalone emergency satellite communications, a first for a smartwatch. This will allow users to connect to emergency services even when a mobile network is unavailable.

Google also highlighted that the Pixel Watch 4 comes with more accurate health and fitness tracking:

  • Smarter sleep tracking: Pixel Watch 4 delivers our most accurate sleep tracking yet. Using new advanced machine learning models, it’s 18% more accurate at classifying your complete sleep cycle, tracking time spent in each stage of sleep.
  • Enhanced skin temperature sensing: With a new Skin Temperature sensor, the watch detects when you"re out of your personal range. This helps indicate changes in your wellbeing, like when you might be falling under the weather.
  • Our most accurate route tracking: New dual-frequency GPS unlocks enables our most accurate route tracking in even the toughest environments, like a downtown city run or tree-dense hike.
  • Real-time bike stats: Plus, enjoy real-time streaming of your metrics from your wrist to the Fitbit app as a heads-up display on your handlebars for cycling.
  • New exercise options: We’ve added new Exercise modes (bringing the watch to 50+ options), including pickleball and basketball.
  • Personalized, automatic tracking: And now, even when you forget to start a workout, your watch will use AI to automatically detect and classify your activity and send you a recap so you never miss out on your stats.

You can now pre-order Pixel Watch 4 and it will be shipping from October 9. The 41mm Pixel Watch 4 will cost $349 for Wi-Fi and $449 for LTE. The 45mm will cost $399 for Wi-Fi and $499 for LTE. Google is also offering 6 months of Fitbit Premium for Pixel Watch 4 owners.
