HP announces the Pavilion Gaming lineup for mainstream gamers

Today, HP announced that it"s expanding its gaming PC lineup. Alongside of the OMEN and OMEN X brands that are aimed at gaming enthusiasts, Pavilion Gaming will be aimed at the mainstream gamer. HP says that this type of customer makes up for 62% of gamers that buy PCs.

First up is the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15, which includes a 15.6-inch FHD display. It comes with Intel"s newest H-series processors, which are quad-core in the Core i5 flavor and hexa-core if you go for the Core i7. There"s also an option for Optane memory, and you"ll get up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU with 6GB GDDR5.

The above model comes in Ghost White, Acid Green (seen above), and Ultraviolet, but there"s another, lower-end Ghost White model that will be available in select markets. This one will include Intel"s quad-core, low-power U-series processors, and a GTX 1050 GPU.

There are also two Pavilion Gaming Desktops, the 690 and the 790.

Like the laptops, the two Pavilion Gaming rigs are available with quad- or hexa-core eighth-generation Intel processors, and the desktops are also offered with an option of second-gen AMD Ryzen chips. For graphics, users will have the option to configure the 690 with up to an Nvidia GTX 1060, or configure the 790 with up to a GTX 1080. You can get AMD graphics too if you want, as both of them are offered with up a Radeon RX 580.

To go with the new desktop gaming PCs, HP is also releasing a new Pavilion Gaming 32 HDR Display. It has a 2560x1440 resolution at 75Hz, and includes AMD"s FreeSync technology for a 5ms response time. It includes 600 nits of peak brightness, and if it"s not obvious, it natively supports HDR.

All of the new HP gaming PCs are expected to be available online and in stores in May or June. The Pavilion Gaming Laptop will start at $799 with an Intel Core i5-8300H, AMD Radeon RX 560X, and a 1080p 60Hz display. For $1,019 though, you"ll get a Core i7-8750H, a GTX 1060 with Max Q Design, and a 1080p 144Hz display.

As far as the desktops go, the 690 starts at $549, and that gets you an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G and AMD Radeon RX 550 graphics. For $1,079, the 690 comes with a Core i7-8700 and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. The 790 starts at $749, and that model comes with a Core i5-8400 and GTX 1050 GPU, while for $1,699, you get a Core i7-8700, a GTX 1070 GPU, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM.
