The first-generation iPhone Air, which launched in September last year, has been one of Apple"s most controversial products. Despite its $999 price tag, the device has modest battery life and packs only one rear camera. If these shortcomings have prevented you from opting for Apple"s ultra-thin iPhone, the second-generation iPhone Air might change your mind.
Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has shared some fresh details about the upcoming iPhone Air 2 and the alleged upgrades we"re about to see. First, the device is rumored to get a 3,500mAh battery. In comparison, the first iPhone Air packs a 3,149mAh battery, which is believed to be one of the device"s biggest downsides.
The leaker also claims the iPhone Air 2 gets the 2nm A20 chip and a 6.55-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Korean sources previously reported that Apple is in talks with Samsung to use its CoE OLED panels on the upcoming iPhone Air. CoE panels could allow Apple to use a thinner and brighter display in its ultra-thin iPhone.
Digital Chat Station also confirms previous reports that Apple plans to add an ultra-wide camera to the iPhone Air"s current camera setup. The iPhone Air 2 is reportedly due to launch in spring 2027, possibly alongside the base iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
Apple is also rumored to increase the battery capacity of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series. While a bigger battery is good news for users, it might also make the devices slightly thicker and heavier. In the case of the iPhone Air 2, it remains to be seen how Apple will address that challenge and use a bigger battery without sacrificing the device"s thinness and weight.
Another big question surrounding the iPhone Air 2 is its pricing. While the first generation costs $999, the upcoming model is expected to become more expensive. iPhones haven"t yet been impacted by Apple"s recent price hikes.
