Is a 128 GB iPad inbound?

The fourth-generation iPad has been on the market for a few months now, with rumours of a fifth-generation model starting to circulate at Christmas. The new iPad is believed to be announced sometime around March, but it may not be the fifth-generation device many are expecting.

The iPad SKU"s as listed by a high-profile U.S. retailer.

According to 9to5mac a new 128 GB fourth-generation model could be on the way, joining the current line of 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB fourth-gen iPads already available.

The SKU image, from a high-profile U.S. retailer, shows the internal P101 and P103 naming conventions Apple use for the devices. Storage is “GOOD,” “BETTER,” “BEST” and “ULTIMATE,” with the last option being reserved for the highest capacity device available. The "A" and "B" in the product codes refer to the devices" colours – A is black and B is white.

Code in iOS 6.1 has hinted that 128 GB iOS devices will be available, and iTunes 11 also references this level of storage

This latest move could be for specific uses, however, such as government, retail or internal use. Given that it appears in a U.S. retailer"s listing, however, a more likely scenario is a consumer option.
