JetBrains adds Mellum to Amazon Bedrock Marketplace

JetBrains has announced that Mellum, its specialized large language model (LLM) for code completion that supports languages like Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, and PHP, is now available on Amazon Bedrock Marketplace.

In case you"re wondering, Amazon Bedrock is an AWS service that gives developers access to a variety of foundation models through a single API. The Marketplace expands this selection, offering over 100 foundation models from different providers, which you can find and deploy on managed endpoints without managing the underlying infrastructure themselves. For deployment, you can also select the number and type of instances and configure auto-scaling to handle your specific workload demands.

The open-source version of Mellum on Hugging Face works just fine for researchers, educators, and teams that want full control to self-host or customize the model. It is fully inspectable and adaptable, released under the Apache 2.0 license.

But JetBrains says the version available on the Amazon Bedrock Marketplace is its production-grade Mellum, which it also uses in-house for its own real-world workloads. This version, unlike the open source one, is "optimized for enterprise deployment" and supposedly offers better performance and stability.

To use Mellum on Bedrock, you just need to find the model in the Bedrock Marketplace, select the GPU hardware that aligns with your performance needs and budget, and then deploy it. JetBrains confirms there are no additional licensing or model hosting fees. You only pay for the compute resources you consume.

In other JetBrains news, the company recently made its RubyMine IDE free for non-commercial use. This is for students, hobbyists, or anyone working on a project that does not generate revenue. It does come with caveats, like the "Code With Me" feature being the limited "Community" edition. Users also cannot opt out of data collection, although JetBrains states this data is anonymized and restricted to usage statistics.
