For a couple of years now, LG"s gram laptops have developed a reputation for being incredibly light machines that don"t cut a lot of corners in terms of performance. This year, LG sent me the 15-inch variant of the gram, and just like before, it"s a very thin and light device packing plenty of power.
The model I got is the top-tier configuration for this size, featuring an Intel Core i7-1065G7 from the Ice Lake family, meaning it uses a 10nm node, plus 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for storage, all for $1,999. This model also has a touch screen, which is always something I appreciate, and it"s Full HD in a 16:9 aspect ratio. That might not be as interesting as the gram 17, which is usually LG"s flagship with a 16:10 display and a much higher QHD+ resolution, but it"s good enough for this screen size.
Like before, the body is made out of a magnesium alloy, which is much lighter than typical aluminum laptops while still being fairly durable. In fact, just like previous models, this one has a MIL-STD 810G rating for durability, so it should survive everyday use easily.
The introduction of Ice Lake processors is a pretty big deal for me because LG gram laptops don"t usually include dedicated graphics. Intel invested a bit more in the graphics power with Ice Lake, so I"m interested in seeing how that affects performance compared to previous-generation processors.
