LinkedIn launches upgraded user experience for desktop

LinkedIn has rolled out a facelift for its desktop experience; designed to closer resemble its mobile platform counterparts. The company claims it has upgraded its "technology architecture" within the update - which hopes to make its service faster and more intuitive for its 470 million users.

The social network has uploaded a video showing off some of the site"s changes.

Along with an upgraded user interface, LinkedIn has added numerous new features to the platform, including:

  • Improved navigation that displays seven key areas of navigation on its header bar: Home, Messaging, Jobs, Notifications, Me, My Network, and Search.
  • An upgraded real-time messaging app which can be accessed from anywhere within LinkedIn.
  • An enhanced news feed designed to provide improved personal content and access to related information for each post.
  • Universal search bar that searches for people, jobs, companies, groups and schools.

It has been suggested around 50% of LinkedIn users access the social network through their mobile device. It"s therefore not surprising the service, recently acquired by Microsoft for $26.2 billion, is bringing consistency to its mobile and desktop experiences.
