Microsoft has announced that it will bring live transcription with speaker attribution, timestamps, and optional translation to Teams Rooms on Android starting in late April 2026. The Redmond giant said that this feature will require a Teams Rooms Pro license and will be enabled by default, with no action needed from administrators.
With live transcription capabilities in Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android, participants will be able view real-time transcription, including with speaker attribution and timestamps, directly on their device. If it is configured, translated transcripts will also display on the front-of-room screen to enhance accessibility.
In terms of the rollout timeframe, Microsoft states that General Availability for Worldwide and GCCH customers will begin in late April and will complete in late May 2026. Once it rolls out to you, you can start transcription from the room console via More > Record and transcribe or Transcribe (based on tenant settings). When the transcription begins, room users will be prompted to confirm the meeting’s spoken language and participants will be told that transcription is active, including with a link to privacy details.
To help users identify when transcriptions are running, icons will update. The transcription icon will appear when only transcription is running and a recording icon will appear when the meeting is being recorded, with or without transcription. When transcriptions are enabled, the original and translated transcripts will display on the front-of-room screen with the original on top and the translation below.
Devices that do not have a Teams Rooms Pro license will not receive this capability. If you do have a license then the feature will be on by default, while respecting admin policies.
Admins are given a list of things they can do to prepare for the update. The most important check is to ensure that impacted devices have a Teams Rooms Pro license assigned to them. Admins can also review meeting transcription settings in the Teams admin center if they want to allow or block transcription for users and resource accounts.
This feature will be useful for those with hearing problems or those who do not speak the same language, making it a widely useful addition when it finally arrives. To learn more, refer to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 555234 or Message ID MC1249432 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
