If you are looking to upgrade your PC audio from 2.0 channel or 2.1 channel to 5.1, and are looking for a good option for under $500, then Logitech"s Z906 is currently a good deal as it is at its lowest price in three months at Amazon (purchase link under the specs table down below).
The Z906 is a very popular speaker set having been around for quite a while. It offers decent sound quality and powerful thumping bass and is ideal for anybody looking for that kind of audio experience at home. The unit comes with THX certification which is meant to indicate that a system is capable of producing a theatre-like SPL of around 105 dB.
The subwoofer comes with a long-throw (high excursion) eight inch driver to deliver that kind of bass presence. While it does not go very deep, the sub is said to produce a warm punchy mid-bass, although if not placed properly, it could become slightly boomy due to uneven room nodes.
