During the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, CI Games officially announced Lords of the Fallen II, the sequel to the reboot that released in 2023. The Soulslike did not get any gameplay footage today, unfortunately, but a cinematic trailer debuted during the show. See it above.
The developer confirmed that the sequel is taking place a full century after the conclusion of the first entry"s storyline. "The Umbral calamity has continued to spread, as the veil between realms is now fragile enough for the horrors of the dark to slip between worlds," describes the developer. "With life itself hanging by a thread, even the Gods hide in fear of the encroaching gloom, leaving humanity utterly forsaken."
The sequel has been in development for over a year, and the studio says it is building on top of all the updates and upgrades it brought to the first title. Combat is supposedly evolving too, with the studio saying that fights will be faster and more decisive, with hesitation being a deciding factor for who wins and loses. "The flow between strikes, dodges, and counters is designed to reward precision, but also tempt risk, while all-new executions up the brutality like never before," it adds.
It was also confirmed that the double realm aspect is returning. Using the Umbral Lamp, players can go between the living world and the Umbral realm. This will allow them to find different paths, uncover hidden passages, and find loot and even deadlier creatures depending on what world they are currently inside. Brand-new abilities using this mechanic have been teased too.
Plenty of "monstrous" boss battles are being promised as well, much like what the cinematic trailer shows off, which should be good news for Soulslike fans.
Lords of the Fallen II is planned to land in 2026, and it is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
