Microsoft acquires start up company Apiphany for Windows Azure

Microsoft continues to add more features and services to its Windows Azure cloud division at a rapid pace. Today, Microsoft announced that it has acquired a Washington DC-based start up company called Apiphany and will use its software APIs in Windows Azure.

In a blog post, Apiphany stated that the company, which formed in 2012, will now be working with Microsoft to integrate its Apiphany API Management and Delivery Platform into Windows Azure. The blog added, "We firmly believe that joining this great company will help us to accelerate our vision of democratizing API management and bringing it to millions of customers across the world." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In related news, Microsoft announced some new updates for Windows Azure this week. They include the general availability of Windows Azure Backup Service which, as the name implies, lets users back up files and folders to a cloud server. Microsoft has also launched the public preview version of Windows Azure Hyper-V Recovery Manager, which will let customers replicate and recover critical systems at another location.

If that is not enough, Microsoft has released version 2.2 of its Windows Azure SDK, which adds Visual Studio 2013 support among other new features and improvements.
