Microsoft adds tablet support to Lync Android app

Microsoft continues to expand its Lync business messaging service to more platforms. Today, the company announced that it has updated the Android version of the Lync app so that it can be used on tablets for the first time.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, "The new Lync for Android app includes the same features as the previous Lync for Android phone app, with adjustments to take advantage of larger tablet screens, including icon size, and image and video adjustments." The tablet must be running Android 4.0 or higher to use the Lync app, except if it has an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip inside. The processor in the tablet has to have a clock speed of 1.2 GHz or higher, and its camera must support VGA or higher.

In addition, the Android version of Lync now includes a way for its users to join a Lync Meeting that"s already in progress, along with the ability to start a group conversation on the fly, without having to schedule the chat in advance.

Microsoft previously announced plans to allow Lync clients to connect to Skype users and vice-versa a few months ago but so far that feature has yet to go live.
