Microsoft and Huawei partnership seeks to accelerate hybrid cloud deployment

At Huawei Connect 2018, Microsoft and Huawei announced that they’ve partnered in order to deliver an “all-flash” Azure Stack solution that allows enterprises to accelerate hybrid cloud services, while also bringing better data reliability. Microsoft said the partnership will benefit the firms" mutual customers and that it is looking to work with other partners to “thrive the development of the cloud ecosystem.”

For those out-of-the-loop, Azure Stack is an extension of the Microsoft Azure public cloud that allows customers to deploy Azure cloud services to their own data centres, helping to address concerns surrounding data security and latency. Azure Stack is designed to make it easy for customers to deploy, operate, and manage cloud applications.

In its announcement, Huawei said:

Built upon Azure Stack, the Huawei-Microsoft all-flash Azure Stack solution builds more efficient data computing and storage capabilities for customers, helping them accelerate digital transformation and meet fast-growing business requirements.

The more efficient hardware that Huawei is referring to is the Huawei FusionServer 2288H V5 which can be adapted to include 24x Huawei ES3000 V5 NVMe SSDs. The all-flash configuration is able to provide higher I/O performance and read-write bandwidth than HDD and HDD-SSD hybrid configurations. The disks have a read speed of 3.5GB/s and a write speed of 3.2GB/s.

The offering also comes with Huawei eSight which provides “efficient and unified management of servers and switches” and “intelligently and automatically” diagnoses and analyses CPU, memory, and PCIe card faults, thus providing solutions to any problems that arise for a speedy resolution.
